A Message From Farr Festival (2018)

Following the ninth edition of Farr Festival we’ve made the difficult decision to take a break from producing the next version in order to re-evaluate our offering and reflect on what we have created.

Farr Festival was founded on the principle of showcasing the very best that the UK and international electronic music community has to offer, all presented within a magical woodland located on the outer fringes of London. Over the years we’ve hosted thousands of you – eager to discover new music, gain unforgettable moments and forge long-lasting friendships with like-minded individuals. Thank you to each and everyone of you for being part of this journey and for inspiring us to do what we do.

Farr is composed of a small team that are dedicated to making those scorching few days in July the pinnacle of our annual efforts. However, as the festival has grown, so has the demand on our resources, including our beloved home of Bygrave Woods and its surrounding environment. “Let things grow organically” somebody once said and that is exactly what we did.

It might seem like a simple thing to do; invite some artists, bring in a sound system, set up a bar and turn on the lights… things get a lot more complicated when the small party you began gradually evolves into an event with 6 stages, 120 artists, 100 traders, 300 crew and 8000 people attending. It requires unparalleled attention to detail, patience and thick skin to do this year upon year.

2018 was a bold edition and marked our most potent lineup to date. Highlights include Mr G, DVS1 and Zip flexing it out in the woods at Ma Dahu’s – Maribou State, Tom Misch and Benji B elevating levels at The Factory – Gerd Janson, Dixon and Job Jobse laying in down at The Shack – Antepop, Rezzett and Claro Intelecto unleashing the fury at Campfire Headphase. A very big thank you to our stage partners as well; Boy’s Own, Abandon Silence, Ransom Note, Inverted Audio, Bokeh Versions, Flux and Shake.

Key to our success is our team, none of this would have been achieved without their grit and determination. Those that have been involved with Farr Festival over the years have become a huge part of our journey and without them, none of this would have been possible. A huge thanks to them for being there and making the past nine years one hell of a ride.

What does the future hold for Farr Festival? This is yet to be determined, but once we arrive at that decision you will be the first to know.

Until then.

FARR, OUT xXx

Thank You 2018

Wow! What a scorcher! After months of hard work, we are in total awe of what went down at Farr Festival 2018 in Bygrave Woods. Thank you all so much for making this edition our best yet!!

Farr Festival 2018 was a truly remarkable weekend in every sense. Our five stunning stages looked and sounded incredible featuring some of the world’s finest exponents of electronic music. Highlights include Gerd Janson and Dixon’s mesmeric masterclass at The Shack, Maribou State, Mount Kimbie and Tom Misch’ sublime live shows at The Factory, Optimo and Young Marco’s sublime back-to-back odyssey at Adventures In Success, plus Rezzett, Claro Intelecto and Ramjac Corportation’s hypnotic live sets at Campfire Headphase and Zip’s extended set at Ma Dahu’s. Plus let’s not forget England won, the weather was exceptional and everyone brought their A-game to the festival.

We’ve now taken time to reflect on one of the most intense and magical weekends of our lives. And we want to say a huge thank you for making Farr Festival one of the leading electronic music festivals in the UK. We cannot wait to start planning for Farr Festival 2019 and our 10th anniversary!

Big love to all of those that helped make the festival happen, especially all of you who came and partied with us from across the country and beyond. And also lots of love to all of the artists, stage hosts, stage managers, traders, activities, yogis, security, medics, designers, builders, hard grafters, toilet cleaners and everyone else who joined together into one brilliant team.

If you have lost a treasured possession at the festival or campsite, please complete this form to help track down your lost item.

About Farr Festival – Essential Information

Farr Festival is an electronic music festival held within an uninhabited forest in Hertfordshire, England.

From humble beginnings in 2009 Farr Festival has evolved from a small gathering of like-minded friends into one of UK’s leading electronic music festivals. Bringing an array of international musical talent to the tranquil environment surrounding Farr Festival.

Taking place between Thursday 5th – Sunday 8th July 2018 the ninth edition of Farr Festival will see us venture deeper into the woods, boasting new stages, daytime experiences and of an eclectic medley of producers, selectors and performers to warm your ears.

Previous performances include Todd Terje, Booka Shade, NAO, Omar-S, Floating Points, John Talabot, Gilles Peterson, Ben UFO, Midland, Joy Orbison, Helena Hauff, DJ Koze, Mount Kimbie, Move D, Prosumer, Tama Sumo, Bicep, Andrew Weatherall, George Fitzgerald, Daniel Avery, Jackmaster, Sophie, Heidi and a whole lot more.

Key to the success of Farr Festival is its size. Whilst we’ve slowly increased this to accommodate the growing demand for a piece of the magic, we look to 2018 as a year to refine all the best bits of the last eight years. We can’t wait to have you along for the ride.

The Farr Forest

The Farr forest was planted in 1980 as an orchard for wild animals and game cover for the winter months. When we discovered The Shack in our woodland, we knew that this would be the heart of Farr Festival. For the original Woodland Warriors who have been with us since the start, you will (just about) remember it. In case your memory needs shaking, it was a broken down caravan that we converted into a stage. We got such good use out of The Shack that it died a sad death when the floor fell in.

Our converted caravan may be gone forever, but the Farr forest remains stronger than ever and expanded for 2018 to its biggest size yet! For just one week a year, Bygrave Woods comes to life and is adorned by twinkly lights, colourful bunting and of course YOU – the Woodland Warriors. Without it, Farr would not be what it is today. Long live cinder trees.

Newnham Village & The Local Community

Here at Farr we work hard to work alongside the local community of Newnham Village and the surrounding areas. We use local contractors for recycling and stewarding as well as inviting the locals to get involved with the festival. 95% of our waste is recycled through a local company. Having the local community behind us means everything and we will endeavour to keep it that way.

Community Hotline

If you are a local resident and would like to contact us regarding any concerns or complaints, please call us on [REDACTED]. We will log all calls and the feedback will help us to continually improve the experience of the event to local residents. Where possible we will take actions to rectify any problems as soon as we can over the weekend.

Farr Festival 2018 App

This year we are delighted to announce that we have collaborated with Woov to present the official Farr Festival 2018 App (iOS + Android), which we hope will make your experience at Farr even better!

As part of the run up to Farr Festival 2017 we are running a DJ mix competition to give one lucky selector the opportunity to play at Farr Festival, plus a pair of weekend tickets.

Main Stage Friday

New to Farr Festival this year is The Factory, a super-size main stage comprised of 52 shipping containers arranged into a rectangle formation that will accommodate 2500 of you beautiful people.

Event Details

For the next edition of Farr Festival we have a weighty selection of record labels and institutions to bring the heat to Bygrave Woods. But first, here’s a taste of the initial acts joining us at Farr Festival 2018.

Taking centre stage we welcome Innervisions co-founder Dixon, Mahogani Music legend Moodymann, Running Back label founder Gerd Janson, Glasgow’s iconic DJ duo Optimo and LuckyMe family member Eclair Fifi. Now over to our stage hosts…

For those that experienced his infectious live set of Detroit techno in 2017, we welcome back Mr G to showcase his tongue-in-cheek “G’s Spot” stage. Joined by the very best of US and further afield producers, Mr G’s custom Funktion One sound system will also return to the woods.

Our long time friends Ransom Note take control of the woods for three nights, presenting a selection of local and international talents from their discography. Sub Club legends JD Twitch and JG Wilkes will also curate a unique lineup “Optimo & Friends” on the Ransom Note stage, cementing their reputation as two of the finest selectors in the game.

South London’s Balamii Radio uproot from their Peckham-based studio and head to Bygrave Woods, promising to inject a wealth of budding talent to the festival. They’ll be based at their very own stage across the full four days at the festival.

Farr Festival is not held responsible for this, and the decision lies with our security and box office team. Shower Pass
