As the dust settles from our recent party in Birmingham with Shadow City, featuring Farr favourites Avalon Emerson and Job Jobse, we invited Shadow City Soundsystem to contribute the next edition of our Into The Woods podcast series curated by Inverted Audio.
Shadow City are a major player in the Birmingham underground scene. Their raw, intricate parties have had a steady committed following since 2011. Throughout that time, Shadow City have aimed to put on acts that they passionately admire, showcasing the likes of Jackmaster, Bicep, Motor City Drum Ensemble and Bonobo, as well as up and coming talents including Avalon Emerson, Denis Sulta, and O'Flynn. The boys aim to create lineups that incorporate both of these types of artists, making for some truly unique shows in Birmingham.
Shadow City Soundsystem was established in 2015, when the Shadow City residents of Jake Bridge, Alex Wynne Hughes, Max Williams and Tom Storey decided to bring their sounds together, rather than perform individually. This has seen them grow as DJs, leading them to incorporate their musical tastes, and making for eclectic, energised sets. The boys have played gigs all over the country together, recently supporting Henry Wu in York, and are expecting a big year ahead in 2017.
They also recently started a vinyl only imprint, with their debut record set for release early April 2017. The record features tracks from close friend Harry Parsons and the boys themselves and has been played by the likes of Denis Sulta, Palms Trax, Moxie and Midland.
This year at Farr Festival 2017, Shadow City will host their own stage featuring Chaos In The CBD, Harry Parsons, Shadow City Soundsystem and a secret guest, head over to Facebook to RSVP to their event.
To offer further insight into the mix, track selection and overall atmosphere, the boys have written a few words below.
